Our Reason Why
Change
Homelessness is an epidemic in the UK. On average, 36 more people become homeless every single day. The causes range from childhood poverty, to increased house prices, redundancy, domestic abuse, poor physical and/or mental health, relationship breakdowns as well as other contributing factors: all of which remain out of one’s locus of control, all of which can change any life at any given moment.
As a result, people are sleeping rough on the streets encountering malnutrition, infectious disease, verbal, physical and sexual abuse (Crisis, 2018), without sufficient law enforcement and governmental support. Despite this suffering, the most recurring and prominent burdens amongst homeless people are feeling worthless, lonely and hopeless.
But are you even a Londoner if you don’t have headphones on, eyes up, skilfully weaving in-between people to get to your next destination. How many our brothers and sisters do we stop to talk to?
